Location of Geological Feature
This building, Castle Place, is rendered and so any original stone is covered up. However this building is of geological interest on two counts. Firstly it was the house in which Gideon Mantell (1790-1852) lived, the doctor and palaeontologist who along with his wife, Mary Ann made the first discovery of the dinosaur Iguanodon. Secondly, look up to the roofline, where the 'Ionic' capitals are actually ammonites, the signature of the architect Amon Wilds.
