The two 25 tonne sandstone blocks are from the Rough Rock of the Rossendale Formation, Millstone Grit Group and quarried from the Johnson Wellfield Quarry at Huddersfield.  

Each sculpture of a miner is based on a real miner and the bronze figure in between the to blocks represents a miner 'listening' to the Formation.
