Location of Geological Feature
Stone used for the ball. This is a very weathered, coarse grained oolitic limestone. It seems a bit too coarse for Portland Stone and so there is a strong possibility that it is one of the Lincolnshire Limestones, perhaps Ketton Stone. It must have once carried a bronze finial; it has blue staining from copper salts.
